A chemical substance is composed of one type of atom or molecule. A mixture is composed of different types of atoms or molecules that are not chemically bonded. A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture of two or more chemical substances where the various components can be visually distinguished.
Mixtures are two components combined together, although, you will still be able to see the particles unmixed with another one. For example, water and oil.
based on observation a mixture is a heterogenous combination of two or more substances where components have retained there characteristics.

For me, a mixture is anything that has two or more substances combined into a new or single substance. There are two types of mixtures. These are your homogenous and heterogenous types. Homogenous, from the word homo itself, means "to be one". It means to appear in one phase only. Meanwhile, the word heterogenous means if a substance can be seen in two phases, like oil and water mixture. You can see the oil on top, right? That is an example of an heterogenous mixture.
Hope it helps!
Fruit salad is a heterogenous mixture, which is a mixture that is not uniform in composition.
It is a combination of two different substances, whether immiscible or not. They can be either separated or not.
